How does kettlebell training help athleticism compared to
traditional weight training?
In kettlebell training joints reach full extension and lockout. In
traditional weight training the weight must decelerate
before lockout and lockout may never be achieved.
Athletics requires the ability to move through full
range of motions and at full speed. The best way to
develop power is to explosively carry out a motion
through its full range. Kettlebells are ideal for this
because the body must express its full power from the
ground up just like in athletics. The entire body must
be involved and work as one unit thus developing total
body power. Outside of the Olympic lifts which are very
difficult to teach and execute, it is kettlebell
training that will provide the greatest training
efficacy for the athlete.
It is important for the athlete to get properly trained with
kettlebells. The bells may then be used by themselves or
as an adjunct to traditional weigh training.
